LACAA FILES SUIT IN FEDERAL COURT AGAINST THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES FOR IMPAIRMENT OF ITS CONTRACT. Click here
On March 23, 2012, we notified you that Miguel Santana,
the City's Administrative Officer (C.A.O.), sent LACAA a letter requesting
to meet about budget issues and "L.A.'s Future." Click here
Prior to meeting, the LACAA posted the CAO's Power Point presentation about
L.A. City's budget and solicited your opinion and analysis. Click here
The meeting with the C.A.O. took place on April 10, 2012. Representing the
LACAA was a committee consisting of LACAA President Oscar Winslow,
LACAA Treasurer Garcelle Embry, and LACAA Directors Marie McTeague and
Chris Bobo. At the meeting the CAO made a proposal calling for
significant additional concessions. Click here
Basically, the demand was for LACAA members to give up everything gained in the 2007 contract, plus pay an additional 4% to LACERS, for the privilege of returning to work full time for the next fiscal year. The C.A.O.'s office indicated that the $9.6 million requested would be the equivalent of about 36 furlough days in FY 2012-13.
The LACAA Board responded to the C.A.O. that the proposal was a non-starter, but that we remain willing and available to listen and exchange information. A final letter was received from the C.A.O. on April 23, 2012. Click here
